What is Proposition 8?

Proposition 8, also known as the Limit on Marriage Amendment or the California Marriage Protection Act, is an initiative measure proposed for the 2008 California General Election ballot that, if passed, would amend the California State Constitution to prohibit same-sex marriage.

Equality for All Home

The Equality for All campaign is a large and diverse coalition of civil rights, faith, choice, labor and community of color organizations working to stop and defeat any ballot measure that would allow discrimination against LGBT Californians and deny gay and lesbian couples the right to marry.

Why I Protest:

This Saturday I will protest the passage of Proposition 8:

Because I believe in America and its pluralistic society where
everyone has equal protection under the law (14th Constitutional
amendment). Even when I disagree with someone, their lifestyle, or whom they
love, I would never use the law to prevent them from having different or separate
rights than I do. This was lost with the passage of Prop. 8.

A slight majority of California voters oppose a measure on the Nov. 4 ballot that would impose a constitutional ban on gay marriage, according to the first Field Poll on the measure.
