Equality for All - No On Prop 8

This Saturday I will protest the passage of Proposition 8:

Because I believe in America and its pluralistic society where
everyone has equal protection under the law (14th Constitutional
amendment). Even when I disagree with someone, their lifestyle, or whom they
love, I would never use the law to prevent them from having different or separate
rights than I do. This was lost with the passage of Prop. 8.

Because I believe those who are against us have forgotten American
history and the struggle of minorities to be both visible and recognized.
Almost every minority group has had legal restrictions on whom they can love
and couple with and it consistently took court rulings to override these forms
of discrimination. The courts, as their roles dictated, were able to see that
these laws were unjust despite popular opinion*. In conjunction civil rights
grassroots movement are critical to keeping the issue salient and I know we ride on the shoulders of those who fought before us.

Because I will never lie again about who I am and the way I was
born. My decision to protest is a symbolic one that I am out in the public
where everyone can see me fighting for an identity that I kept hidden for the
majority of my life. I will no longer live in a bubble and its time for people to see that we exist and we are your friends, your family, your co-workers, and your fellow citizens.

Because I believe in love and the human spirit and despite the fact
that we live in a world that can be harsh and full of pain, what makes us
special is our incredible sense of empathy and the fact that our society’s
institutions, whether religious or state all universally encompass the golden
rule. Despite my previous notes, which I agree was somewhat misdirected in my initial resentment of the passage I now know how to defeat this proposition. I love you, I love you, I love you.

Come join me this Saturday, November 15 at 10:30a PDT in protest:
